Leaders are first and foremost servants of Jesus. All leadership in the church flows from Christ, the head of the church, and true authority rests not in a person or position but in the word of God. Jesus is the chief shepherd of the flock, the risen and reigning King, seated with all authority to advance the gospel through his body.
In Acts and the Epistles, leaders are not disconnected decision-makers or power brokers. They are examples of Christian maturity: not perfect, but growing in Christ. Every Christian's fundamental identity is disciple; everything else, from mother to worker to leader, is a role. Leaders are disciples first and leaders second.
Elders are biblically qualified men who lead the church together as co-equals, overseeing its direction, protecting it through sound biblical teaching, and shepherding the spiritual growth of individuals, Gospel Communities, and the church as a whole.
