A Generous People
Each year at Redeemer, we set aside time in our preaching calendar for an “equipping series” to strengthen us corporately in a specific area of our discipleship to Jesus. On October 15th, we will pause our 1 Corinthians study for a short equipping series, A Generous People.
In the Bible we meet a God who gives. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells the story of God’s lavish generosity. This story reaches its climax in God giving his only son, Jesus, who very literally pours himself out to richly bless undeserving people like you and me. But God’s giving doesn’t stop here. He gives us the Holy Spirit, meets our every need, sustains us in every season, blesses the work of our hands, gives us spiritual gifts, and equips us for every good work. In the end, the God of all grace will bless us with a heavenly inheritance and eternal life upon the return of Jesus. What grace! Generosity is at the very heart of God.
So, how do we receive and respond to such generosity? As followers of Jesus, how do we resist the pull toward consumerism and materialism in our culture? How do we push back against our propensity to find hope and security in earthly treasures? And how can we live lives that reflect and steward the generosity of God that we have received? In this series, we will explore these questions with the hope that God will make us a generous people.
