In Mark 6 Jesus sends his disciples out in a boat on the Sea of Galilee. Shortly after setting sail, these fishermen find themselves amid an unexpected, hectic storm. This scene resonates with many of us — clear direction and sunny skies – suddenly overcome with dark clouds and disorienting winds.
Storms in life come in various forms – disappointment and depression, anxiety and fear, loss and grief, failure and shame, sin and suffering. And when they come, we often feel alone. But Mark 6 tells us that Jesus shows up in the storm. He says “take heart, don’t be afraid, I am with you.”
