Loving Our Enemies

In this passage, Jesus is teaching us about loving others. The main idea in the text is that the way of Jesus is the way of loving your enemy. Loving our enemies includes doing good, speaking blessing, and praying for them. Only this kind of divine love that can transform us and others. We see a vivid portrayal of this in Acts 7 which tells of the stoning of Stephen. Stephen while being stoned to death by his religious enemies prays for their forgiveness. Among Stephen’s enemies was a man named Saul who later encountered the grace of Jesus (Stephen’s prayer was answered).
